Femoroacetabular impingement: prevention or intervention? The sports physician's quandary.

چکیده
Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a mechanical process by which the human hip fails due to pathological contact between the skeletal prominences of the acetabulum and the femur. This repetitive pathological contact occurs during normal activities of daily living as well as, more prominently, in an athletic population. This causes a microtraumatic effect and subsequently irreversible chondral damage to the acetabular as well as femoral surfaces—osteoarthritis of the hip joint.

There were 12 cases of Taekwondo injury, 5 of golf injury, ...
متن کاملDoes high level youth sports participation increase the risk of femoroacetabular impingement? A review of the current literature
Sports participation can be an integral part of adolescent development with numerous positive short and long-term effects. Despite these potential benefits very high levels of physical activity, during skeletal maturation, have been proposed as a possible cause of cam-type femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). The influence of physical activity on the developing physis has been previously describ...
متن کاملArthroscopic management of pincer-type impingement.
Femoroacetabular impingement is a disorder associated with labrochondral injury and the development of osteoarthritis. Although femoroacetabular impingement is a 3-dimensional disorder with variable size and extent of impingement between individuals, there are 2 primary types of hip impingement: Cam-type and Pincer-type. Cam-type impingement is the result of asphericity of the femoral head-neck...
